Blaina Bowls Club wins the 2006 Monmouthshire Bowls League
Blaina Bowls Club goes one step further than 2005 and wins the Monmouthshire bowls league for 2006, an achievement that has eluded them since 1979, but then the Monmouthshire league used a format of playing on a straight knockout basis. Also credit goes to our Gwent Bowling League Team who have won the first division of the Gwent Bowling League for the past two years in succession, this goes to show the strength that is within this great little club. The club also found themselves nominated for the Blaenau Gwent Adult Sports Team of the year for 2006/2007 which to great surprise they won.
Over the past couple of seasons, the club has seen a great change within the structure of the club, we have seen the formation of two great league sides, a ladies section which was formed in 2003 and then entered their own team in the womens bowling league in 2004, they now have a membership of approximately thirty five women and youngsters.
Club Coaching
We also have three registered club coaches, one of which is an advanced coach by the name of Mr Howard Knight, he narrowly missed out on being named as Club Coach of the year for 2006/2007 in the recent Blaenau Gwent Sports Personality of the year awards. If anyone is interested in trying out this great sport, please come down to the club and have a rollout with Howard and the other club coaches, Mr Brynley Russell and Mr Richard Williams, these guys will make you feel more than welcome.
There is a fantastic atmosphere on and off the green, whether the guys and dolls have just been practicing or playing in a league match, and afterwards in the club you will enjoy yourself second to none. The club holds regular show nights and hold bingo and tote nights every Sunday.
The everyday running of the club is sorted out by a club committee and the teams are selected by a separate selection committee, the ladies section have their own committee within the club, if any ladies young or old would like to join this up and coming section please feel free to come to the club and speak to the ladies.
